How to replace your title in Alaska


Go to any local DMV to apply for a duplicate vehicle title if the original was stolen, damaged or lost. You also have the option to apply by mail. Any vehicle that is less than ten years old with a missing title cannot be bought or sold so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.

Make sure to bring the following when applying for a duplicate:

  • Fill out the Affidavit for a Lost, Stolen or Destroyed Title here
  • If you cannot access the form, you can write a letter of application for a duplicate title. The letter must include your name, complete Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), a description of the vehicle, and your signature.
  • You must have it notarized once you complete.
  • If your title shows a lien holder, you must include a completed and notarized Lien release with your application.
  • If you have it, include a copy of the last registration issued

Fees:

When you send in your application make sure to include the fee of $15.00. Checks and money orders should be payable to the Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles. Personal checks must include your name and address. Alaska DMV accepts Visa and MasterCard.
