New Title and Title Transfers in Oregon

How to get a new title in Oregon

Getting a title is a document that proves you legally own your vehicle in Oregon. When you purchase a new vehicle you must have a title. If you are giving away or selling a used car you must do a title transfer within 30 days.

In most cases the dealership where you purchased the vehicle from will handle your title process. If you wish to handle the process on your own you may do so.

To transfer a title send in the following documents and submit the appropriate fees to the DMV office:

  • Get the title signed over to you and notarized. The title must include the federal odometer disclosure if the vehicle is less than ten years old.
  • Get the bill of sale or a lien release or click here for a secure odometer disclosure form.
  • Get the odometer disclosure form if the title doesn't include this information and the vehicle is less than ten years old.
  • Click here to complete an application.

You can mail the notice to the DMV:

DMV Headquarters
1905 Lana Ave NE
Salem, Oregon 97314

Fees:

  • $55.00 title fee.
