New Title and Title Transfers in Ohio

How to get a new title in Ohio

Getting a title is a document proving you legally own your vehicle in Ohio. When you get a new vehicle you must get a new title. If you are giving away a vehicle or selling one you must do a title transfer.

In most cases the dealership where you purchased your vehicle from will handle your title process. If you wish to handle the process on your own you may do so.

If you want to do a title transfer please get the following documents and submit them with the necessary fees to your local Ohio clerk of courts auto title offices:

  • Have the title signed over to you. The title must include the federal odometer disclosure if the vehicle's less than ten years old.
  • If the title doesn't show the date of sale and selling price you must get a completed bill of sale signed by the current owner and new owner and get it notarized.
  • Get an odometer disclosure statement if your title doesn't have it.
  • Click here for a vehicle title application and have ito signed by the seller.

Fees:

  • There is a $5 fee.
