New Title and Title Transfers in Arizona

How to get a new title in Arizona

You must get a title whenever you purchase a new vehicle. If you get a used car or a car as a gift you must transfer over the title.

Getting a title for a new vehicle:

When you buy a car from a dealer they will usually take care of the paperwork and processing for a new title. If you wish to take care of the title process on your own you may do so.

Transferring a title on a used vehicle:

If you buy a used car or you get one as a gift the title must be legally transferred into your name within 15 days. This is done by getting the following documents and sending them in with the fee to the MVD office.

  • The title application completed.
  • The current title with the assignment completed by the seller or person who donated signing the title over to you and notarized.
  • If the title does not indicate the date of sale and selling price, a completed Bill of Sale signed by both current and new owner and notarized, is required.
  • The original or copy of the vehicle's financing statement or security agreement.

Fees:

  • $4 title fee.
  • $8 Registration fee, which varies depending on the office.
  • $1.50 Air quality research fee.
  • A vehicle license tax also has to be paid.
